The Secret Circle Season 1 "Pilot" Recap

THE SECRET CIRCLE "Pilot" Pictured (L-R): Thomas Dekker as Adam and Britt Robertson as Cassie. © 2011 The CW Network, LLC. All rights reserved.
The much anticipated Secret Circle premiered Thursday night and it started off with a bang... literally.  Too soon?  We meet the main character, Cassie in a somewhat awkward scene of her dancing to some music in her car which luckily stops when she gets a flat tire.

A mysterious man (who we later learn is little miss goody two shoes, Diana's father) proceeds to magically set Cassie's house on fire with her mother still inside. So begins Cassie's life in Chance Harbor, which doesn't start off so well either.  Her car is set on fire with her trapped inside by the "resident bad girl"; Faye, so she could test Cassie's powers.  This seems especially cruel to me considering Cassie's mother was just killed in a fire but oh well!  In swoops Adam to save the day... PROBLEM!  Adam already has a girlfriend, the aforementioned Diana.  A well established love triangle in the first episode? Nicely played CW.

All rights reserved.Cassie is lost and confused and Diana finally leads her to a creepy old abandoned house where the cast bombards her with the news that she's a witch.  But not only that, she is the last piece to completing their "secret circle."  Cassie of course freaks out and runs off into the woods which sets up for one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen.  Adam catches up to her and decides to prove it to Cassie (why didn't they just do that to begin with?)  They make magic together and all the droplets of water begin to float.

In the end Cassie finds an old journal hidden in her Mom's old room with a letter inside from her mother.  In essence the later stated that bad people will be after Cassie and she should look out.  So who are the bad people?

From what I got from this episode, I don't think anyone in the circle is out and out evil.  Faye seems power hungry and a bit snobbish but not sure if she is evil.  Faye's mom and Diana's father on the other hand are definitely evil and seem to have brought Cassie to Chance Harbor for a reason.  Cassie's grandmother seems worried about the "children" starting up the circle.  Last time it ended in the death of Cassie's father and some others.  According to Adam's father, Cassie's mom wasn't meant for her father, but rather for him.  I am guessing this means Cassie's mother was good but her father wasn't?  I'm not sure, we will find out soon enough though.

My thoughts... I'm actually more impressed then I thought I would be.  I was a little leary at first because I wasn't super found of Britt Robertson (Cassie) when she was in Life Unexpected but so far so good in this one.  I am still slightly dissapointed in the guy selection, but I seem to be the only one.  So I guess I will suffer in silence and get my fix from Ian Somerhalder in Vampire Diaries beforehand.   Thumbs up for now!

New 24oz Acrylic Tumbler

Left: Original 16oz Tumbler- $12   Right: New 24oz Tumbler- $18

I am extremely excited to announce my new 24oz tumbler which is $18.  I have been on the hunt the last few months trying to find a larger size tumbler and I am so happy that I finally have.  If you are like me, you like to have a large drink by your side at all times.  One that doesn't have to be refilled often and the new 24oz size is perfect for that.

The 24oz size can be decorated just the same as the original 16oz.  It is also BPA free like the 16oz and should be hand washed.

If you have ordered a cup from me in the last few days and would like to change to this new bigger size, please contact me as soon as possible and I will be happy to change your order for you.

I'd love to hear your feedback and if you are excited about this new size or if you prefer the original 16oz.

Just to clarify, I am not discontinuing the 16oz tumblers.  I am now just offering the 24oz as an option as well.

The Vampire Diaries Season 3 "The Birthday" Recap

"THE BIRTHDAY"--LtoR: Joseph Morgan as Klaus, David Gallagher as Ray, and Paul Wesley as Stefan on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on The CW. Photo: Bob Mahoney/The CW ©2011 The CW Network. All Rights Reserved.
Vampire Diaries has returned and with it vampires, werewolves, hybrid wolf/vampires, long distant witches, and apparently now ghosts.  Does this now cover every being in the supernatural world?

It's Elena's birthday but things aren't looking too good for her.  She has lost her Aunt, her boyfriend is under the power of Klaus, and her brother is seeing ghosts and has turned to drugs to cope.

Stefan is not only under the power of Klaus but he seems to be enjoying it.  He has gone back to his "Ripper" days.  Elena has spent her summer tracking down leads and handing them off to Damon.  Stefan's trail of kills seem to travel across the country but they all seem to be in search of other werewolves that Klaus can turn into hybrids like himself.  In enters poor Ray, not only have the lovely girls he has been living with just been literally torn to pieces but he is now being used as a human dartboard.  To make it even worse?  The darts are coated in wolfsbane.

"THE BIRTHDAY "--LtoR: Matt Davis as Alaric, Nina Dobrev as Elena, and Ian Somerhalder as Damon on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on The CW. Photo: Quantrell D. Colbert/The CW ©2011 The CW Network. All Rights Reserved.Caroline and Tyler have spent their summer living as pseudo best friends but the tension is rising and something is going to have to change quick.  Jeremy is seeing ghosts, and not just any ghosts but old ex-girlfriends Vicki and Anna.  In a marijuana haze Jeremy and Matt bond and Jeremy shares his new affliction.

Caroline throws Elena an over the top birthday party which seems to not accomplish much besides finally pushing Alaric over the edge and making Caroline so jealous of Tyler and his date that they finally hook up.

Klaus makes Stefan convince Damon to stop following them.  Stefan compels Damon's "girlfriend" Andie to fall to her death.  Damon loses it and finally tells Elena whats going on, which of course she doesn't want to believe.

"THE BIRTHDAY "--Candice Accola as Caroline and Michael Trevino as Tyler on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on The CW. Photo: Annette Brown/The CW ©2011 The CW Network. All Rights Reserved.Klaus makes Ray drink his blood and begins what seems to be a hybrid army he is building.  Stefan breaks down in the parking lot and calls Elena on a blocked number.  He says nothing but Elena assures him on the other end that “ I love you Stefan. Hold on to that. Never let that go.”  Caroline ends up being shot with vervain darts by Mrs. Lockwood while doing the walk of shame out of Tyler's bedroom.

My Thoughts... I am going to be honest, I kind of enjoy evil Stefan.  Maybe it's because I always thought he was a bit whiny and not quite manly enough.  But really the main reason is I am still rooting for Damon and Elena to get together and there is a better chance if Stefan isn't around.  Damon's hair is a bit too long, it is bordering on mulletness.  I'm all for this new Tyler and Caroline thing, way better then constantly hearing Matt whine all the time.  (Which actually hasn't stopped, there were plenty of scenes with him whining in this episode as well.)  Is Bonnie gone?  Like not in the show anymore?  I always feel like they do the phone chats like that when someone isn't really on the cast anymore.

Fried Dill Pickles

Ingredients

Canola oil for frying
About 3 cups Claussen pickles sliced about 1/4" thick
1 cup flour
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
2 cups Panko bread crumbs
2 teaspoons dried dill
2 teaspoons garlic powder
Kosher salt

In a large heavy-bottomed skillet or cast-iron pan, heat enough oil to cover 1/2-inch of the skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350 degrees F.

Cut dill pickles into 1/4 inch pieces

Place all pickles and flour in a zip top bag and shake until all pickles are coated

Mix 2 large eggs and 1/2 cup milk in large dish

Mix 2 cups Panko, 2 teaspoons dried dill, and 2 teaspoons garlic powder in plate or dish for coating

Drop flour coated pickles in egg and milk bath and coat completely

Then put pickles into Panko mixture and coat completely

Watch the temperature of oil on stove and do a sample test

Place pickles in batches of 15 at a time, once pickles are placed in oil they are usually ready to come out.  They fry extremely quickly

Buttermilk Ranch Dipping Sauce

1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked pepper

Mix ingredients together and allow to sit in the fridge for about an hour.  Sample and adjust seasoning to taste.

Enjoy!

Halloween Crafting Sneak Peek

If I am being honest I have never been a big Halloween person, especially when it comes to decorating.  This year though is a bit different, I had a little too much fun at the Dollar Store the other day going Halloween crazy.  So here is a sneak peek at some things I picked up.  Stay tuned the rest of month for some crafts turning these Dollar Store items into something spectacular (well I hope it is spectacular...) Grand Finale will be working everything into a spooky mantle in the beginning of October.

Do you love Halloween?

Rain Rain Go Away

Those close to me know that I dread rain and lately that is all there's been and all there will be for a while.
But I will admit there is a certain beauty to rain and as much as I dread it I love it as well.
I love being snuggled under the covers and falling asleep to the sound of the rain on the roof.
I love the beauty of the droplets on the window.
I love the unpredictability of it all.

So here are some etsy finds all about rain.

Friday Five

Friday Five this week is all about Fall TV shows.  I have always loved this time of year when all the previews come out for all the new shows.  I usually start off with a bunch I watch but by the end of the seasons it has dwindled down to a few good ones.

Here are five that I am looking forward too.

New Girl

Grimm

Hart of Dixie

The Secret Circle

Pan Am

What new fall shows will you be watching?  What current favorites are you excited to see come back?
